The Circular Economy is a revolutionary concept that seeks to redefine the way we produce, consume, and reuse resources. In the Automotive Aftermarket, remanufacturing plays a crucial role in reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting sustainable practices. Automotive remanufacturing is the process of restoring used vehicle parts to their original condition, making them equivalent to new parts in terms of quality and performance.

The Automotive Remanufacturers’ Association (ARA), a proud Association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI) is a key player in promoting remanufacturing in South Africa, setting standards, and encouraging ethical trading practices in the Automotive Aftermarket.

Furthermore, remanufacturing also provides consumers with affordable and high-quality alternatives to new parts. Remanufactured parts are often priced lower than new parts, making them an attractive option for consumers who want to maintain their vehicles without breaking the bank. Additionally, remanufactured parts come with warranties, providing consumers with peace of mind and confidence in the quality of the product.

Automotive Remanufacturing is a shining example of the Circular Economy in action. By reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting sustainable practices, remanufacturing is helping to create a more sustainable future for the Automotive Aftermarket, and with RMI/ARA as Industry leaders, we must continue to innovate and promote Circular Economy practices to ensure a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.

Automotive remanufacturing reduces greenhouse-gas-emissions in a number of ways, including:

  1. Reducing the need for raw materials, which requires energy to source and process;
  2. Reducing the energy needed to manufacture a new part, as remanufacturing can be done using existing parts;
  3. Reducing waste generated during production; and
  4. Reducing the carbon-emissions generated by the remanufacturing process itself, as opposed to traditional manufacturing.
