Reman Cylinder Head Caution on Caterpillar C15, C16 and C18 Diesel Engines
The AERA Technical Committee offers the following information on a reman cylinder head caution for the C15, C16 and C18 diesel engines. This information should be considered anytime the cylinder head and injectors are being serviced.
It’s been reported that cylinder head salvage operations for the above mentioned engines may involve an oversize injector sleeve previously installed during the rebuild process.
Cylinder Head Variations on 2002-2009 Caterpillar C9 and C9.3 Diesel Engines
The AERA Technical Committee offers the following information on cylinder head variations for 2002-2009 Caterpillar C9 and C9.3 diesel engines. This information should be carefully considered anytime the valve train or cylinder head is being worked on.
Currently, there are variations to the cylinder head used by Caterpillar that make interchanging cylinder heads somewhat difficult. Only limited interchangeability exists as shown in the chart.
Ford 6.0L High-Pressure Oiling System
The Ford 6.0L Power Stroke engine relies on a high-pressure oil system to fire the fuel injectors. People may experience a no start situation with these engines and the high-pressure oil system
could be a cause for that. In this article we will explain how it functions and common areas to look at when a no start situation occurs. The system is comprised of multiple components, many of which you may be unfamiliar with.
The oil circulates through the system by means of a pump which is monitored and controlled by the IPR, ICP and FICM. The oil then flows to the branch tube which connects to the oil feed pipes (both banks). The oil feed pipe delivers the oil to the oil rails which contain individual nipples that connect to the individual injectors. All these components need to function
properly for the fuel injector to open and deliver fuel for combustion.

Podcast Episode 19
In this episode, Steve and Chuck introduce a new segment of the podcast called “Ask The Tech” where they take questions received on the AERA techline and explain the answers. This episode is on compression ratio, understanding what it is and how a machining process can change the compression ratio. Our history segment covers an invention that we all probably like in our vehicles – the cruise control!
